f18 raptor
The idea to build a high-performance catamaran came from Jacques after a Sunday sail in 2015. Finding that his Dart was lacking in speed and power, Jacques wanted more, but after researching the cost of faster models it became clear that bringing any new-age dinghy into the country would cost in the region of half a million Rand, which was simply not an option, and so the idea of the F18 Raptor was born.
With the assistance of a friend, pen was put to paper and by early 2016 the concept started to come alive. After the drawings were finalized, a scale model of the Raptor was hand-made by Customized Composites for testing purposes and soon after, the full-size build began.
This project has gained a large amount of interest in the South African Sailing community over the past few years and many people are eager to see the real-deal in action but unfortunately, this is a side project from Customized Composites and is only built in spare time and when funds are available.
Currently the plug for the hulls is complete and is in storage awaiting mold production.
